Pan-aadhaar linking

 Sub-Section(2) of section 139AA of the Indian Income tax act 1961, provided that it is mandatory for every individual who has been allotted a Permanent Account Number (PAN) on 1st July 2017 to link his/her Aadhaar number with PAN by 30 June 2023, failing PAN become inoperative from 1 July 2023. PAN-Aadhaar link fee

PAN-Aadhaar link fee till March 31st, 2023 is Zero and from 1 April to 30 June 2023 charge will be 500, and after 30 June 2023 fee amount will be 1000.

PAN-Aadhaar link Penalty

What will happen if PAN-Aadhaar not linked

According to Finance Ministry

(1)   PAN becomes inoperative

(2)   TDS/TCS shall be deducted at a higher rate

(3)   Individuals will not able to file ITR

(4)   Pending refunds will not be issued

(5)   Bank transactions will be difficult

(6)   KYC will not be processed

For whom PAN-Aadhar linkage is not required

(1)   A person aged 80 years or above

(2)    Any person who is a resident of Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, and Meghalaya

(3)   A person not a citizen of India

(4)   A person, not a resident of India as per Income tax 1961

Why PAN-Aadhaar linking is compulsory

To identify and block the bogus PANs.

How to link PAN-Aadhar

Step(1) visit the e-filling portal Home page at incometax.gov.in

Step(2) Enter your PAN and Aadhaar Number in the given box

Step(3) Enter your PAN and your mobile number to receive OTP

Step(4) After OTP verification you will be redirected to the e-pay tax page and pay the prescribed fee and further continue.

PAN-Aadhaar link through SMS

There is no official process to link PAN-Aadhaar through SMS in the manual of income tax. Do not share your information with any SMS number provided in many unofficial youtube videos.

PAN-Aadhaar link status

You have to visit the ‘e-filling portal’ home page of income tax and click the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ link given on the left side of the portal.

How many PANs are linked with Aadhaar

According to Finance ministry till 28 March 2023, more than 51 crore PANs have already been linked with Aadhaar.
